Milan: Joia

Set in the heart of buzzing Milan, Joia was the first vegetarian restaurant in Europe to receive the most-coveted Michelin star.

An innovator of vegetarian cuisine, Pietro Leemann (chef and patron of Joia) consistently pushes boundaries of what can be achieved with the humble vegetable. With a mostly vegan-friendly restaurant, the dishes are of the highest standard, proving that fine-dining does not need to be sacrificed when chooser the greener option. Aesthetically pleasing and technically excellent, the menu is imbued with a poetic flair, providing seasonal produce, light, clean flavours and is a welcome escape from the meat-heavy Milanese diet.

Vancouver: The Acorn

The first upscale vegetarian dining room in Vancouver, The Acorn is a small but perfectly formed destination for even the most discerning vegan.

Refined, ‘vegetable-forward’ cooking is what’s on offer at The Acorn, in summary, it’s fine dining that puts plants first. The menu is forest-centric with many of its British Columbian ingredients locally foraged, and its menu constantly being updated and curate to match the season’s offerings. The restaurant itself is bijou, with a maximum of 30 seats the queue is often out of the door and it’s definitely one of the hottest places in town. Rome: Il Margutta

The vegetarian diet has often been linked with a longer life expectancy, so it makes sense that a restaurant at the top of its game resides in the Eternal City.

Based at the end of the enchanting Via Margutta, the restaurant itself at first glance could be mistaken for an art gallery. A constantly changing display of modern art plays backdrop to a playful vegetarian kitchen, serving meat-free twists on classic Mediterranean dishes.
