A GUIDE TO VEGANITY
Be kind to yourself and the planet
One of the biggest trends of 2019 is the vegan diet. Making the decision to go vegan is not only popular for ethical and environmental reasons but the proven benefits to your health including a trimmer waistline and improved blood sugar control are also a great reason to switch. But where do you begin once you’ve made the decision to go vegan? With reems of, sometimes conflicting, advice on how to get started, which protein sources to supplement and which products are planet friendly, the topic can seem completely overwhelming.
A great way to kick start your journey into veganism is to head to the Four Seasons Costa Rica who are launching their first annual Wellness Season. Transform your mind, body and soul with a variety of activities based at the tranquil, luxurious resort. Work up an appetite with one of their unlimited yoga and fitness classes, before heading to a vegan and wellness cooking class. Focusing on nutritious, simple dishes that are easy to replicate at home, learn how to make delicious and healthy vegan meals from top chefs in the heart of Costa Rica.
If you’re more of a city person, why not learn some top vegan dishes in the heart of London at Leiths School of Food and Wine. With the ‘Essential Vegan’ beginners’ workshop you will be equipped with a range of cooking techniques and recipes to ensure your plant-based diet is varied and full of delicious flavours. Not only focussing on the everyday essentials but also dinner party showstoppers, you will leave with a full repertoire for every situation. Whilst learning top vegan recipes to cook yourself is essential, eating-out is not something to be given up.
Many restaurants now happily cater for vegans and many offer a separate menu making your choices clear and easy. Taking this one step further is Veganity, a new solely vegan restaurant opening in Dubai this summer. With all options 100% plant-based, organic and GMO free it also helps that all dishes look absolutely delicious with highlights including fried “chicken”, a pulled jackfruit burger, vegan cinnamon rolls and vegan scallops (steamed and seared king oyster mushrooms). Other fantastic fully vegan restaurants include Farmacy in London, XYST in New York and Parlour in Florida.
Of course, whilst food and drink are main pillars of switching to a vegan lifestyle, your skincare regime and wardrobe may also need a review. Steering clear of leather or fur are two great ways to easily boost your wardrobe’s vegan credentials, whilst your skincare products need a little further investigation. At LURA, some of our favourite vegan products (not using any animal products or testing on animals) are Le Labo’s ‘Thé Noir 29’ cologne, AESOP’s ‘Geranium Body Cleanser’ and Tata Harper’s ‘Beautifying Face Oil’.
Whether you’re choosing to go ‘full-vegan’ or just making a few healthier improvements to your lifestyle, LURA is always on hand to assist and support. Contact your LURA Lifestyle Manager today to get started.
